Criteria for High School Seniors

Eligibility Criteria

Applicant must be a full-time high school student enrolled in a construction and manufacturing-related career and technical program (CTE) in a Mississippi high school.

Applicant must be a senior and eligible to graduate and on track to enroll and be accepted in a construction or manufacturing-related degree program in a SACS-accredited community college, four-year college or university, or MCEF apprenticeship program.

Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4 point scale.

Applicant must be recommended by his or her career and technical NCCER Certified instructor and the Director of the career and technical education center.

Requirements

Applicant is responsible for ensuring that all of the following items are submitted as one package and received no later than March 31, 2020. - EXTENDED TO APRIL 30, 2020

A fully completed and typed application form. (Handwritten applications will not be accepted.)

Three letters of recommendation: (1) Personal and (2) Academic from the CTE Instructor and the CTE Director

Submit a maximum of one-page typed essay that details (a) why you are going into the construction or manufacturing industry (b) your commitment to graduate, and (c) how do you feel you are qualified to impact the future if you are awarded this scholarship.

Official high school transcripts. (Grade reports will not be accepted) Note: Official high school transcripts may be submitted separate of fully completed application; however, official transcripts must be received by the scholarship deadline.

Award recipients will be recognized at the MCEF Annual Graduation and Awards Day program on May 8, 2020. Attendance is requested, but not mandatory.

Awards

A successful applicant will receive up to $500.00 in funds paid directly to the enrolling institution of higher learning or to MCEF apprenticeship. The scholarship will be a one-time award.

Applications will be reviewed and recipients selected by the MCEF/SBOC Scholarship Committee which will consider the applicant’s interest in construction, grades, extracurricular activities, employment experience, and letters of recommendation.

Awards will be presented to the scholarship recipients at the MCEF Awards Day on May 8, 2020. Attendance is requested, but not mandatory.

Applicant must ensure that the application, letters of recommendation and official transcripts and required attachments are received by the March 31, 2020 deadline. To make application, submit the MCEF Scholarship Application to MCEF. -- EXTENDED TO APRIL 30, 2020
