MCEF HONORS SHERRI BLOUNT PRESIDENT’S AWARD FOR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE

VETERAN EMPLOYEE GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND TO HELP BUILD THE STATE’S SKILLED WORKFORCE

PEARL ― Sherri Blount’s efforts to improve career and technical education in Mississippi led to her selection as a 2019 recipient of the President’s Hard Hat Award from Mississippi Construction Education Foundation. Blount of Diamondhead received the honor for outstanding employee performance during MCEF’s recent annual awards celebration in Pearl.

As MCEF’s south area director, Blount works with career and technical education centers on secondary and post-secondary levels to educate students on the benefits of construction trades. A former educator, Blount has 17 years of service with MCEF.

“Sherri is always hard working and dedicated in all of her efforts,” said Mike Barkett, MCEF president. “She serves as the go-to person for other area directors when needed and works tirelessly to improve the quality of education in our secondary programs. She also leads by example for all of our staff members.”

Blount received a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of North Alabama. As an MCEF leader, she works closely with 34 secondary centers, six post-secondary schools and the construction industry throughout the southern part of Mississippi. Her goal is to help every student who wishes to pursue a career in the construction industry receive that opportunity.

“Working for MCEF and working with students has been a rewarding career,” Blount said. “We provide a unique opportunity to help train students to become productive citizens in our communities, and I’m blessed to have so many partners who are working toward the same goal. Every student is an individual of great worth and potential. I’m so glad to be a part of MCEF and helping students find their place.”

MCEF is a non-profit educational foundation that provides NCCER craft training and credentialing in more than 100 career and technical programs across the state. The foundation’s mission is to train individuals for the construction and manufacturing industries in Mississippi.
