MCEF TO HONOR OUTSTANDING STUDENTS AT AWARDS DINNER
REGIONAL CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION STANDOUTS COMPETE FOR STATE’S TOP HONORS

PEARL ― Twenty-seven of the state’s top-performing career and technical education students will vie for top honors at an annual celebration sponsored by the Mississippi Construction Education Foundation on May 3.
The event will recognize finalists comprised of MCEF’s students of the month for 2018-19.
Also being honored during the dinner will be winners of the MCEF and Mississippi State Board of Contractors scholarship program and the MCEF State Craft Competition. In addition, MCEF will recognize its 2019 apprentice graduates along with the 2018 State Craft Competition winners who competed recently in the 2019 National Craft Championship in Long Beach, CA.
“Our annual awards and graduation dinner is an opportunity to recognize Mississippi’s best and brightest students and to honor the hard work and dedication they’ve demonstrated in preparing for their futures,” said Mike Barkett, MCEF president. “These outstanding students are helping ensure that Mississippi has a highly skilled workforce to support the state’s growing construction and manufacturing industries.”
MCEF’s Student of the Month program honors students who are excelling in high school career tech programs throughout Mississippi. During the dinner, monthly winners representing MCEF’s northern, southern, south central and north central districts will be recognized. From those finalists, four students of the year, including one from each district, will be announced and awarded $500 cash prizes.
Instructor nominations for student of the month are based on grades, attendance, class discipline, outstanding achievements, leadership abilities and post-graduation plans. A committee selects monthly and yearly award recipients.
Student of the year finalists from the northern region are Jake Brownlee and John Oglesby, Tupelo Career Technical Center; Jacob Champion and Jandon Taylor, South Panola Career and Technology Center; Tristan Sanford and Jacob Bates, Tippah Career and Technology Center; and Daulton Terry, Grenada County Career and Technical Center.
North central region finalists are Byron Coburn, Tristin Parker and Brady Pope, Philadelphia Neshoba County Career Technical Center; Markeveon Brown, Thomas C. Randle Career and Technical Center in Belzoni; Bradly Cunningham, Lowndes County Career Technology Center; Sabrina Shields, Choctaw County Career and Technology Center; and Vincent Solano, Canton Career Center.
Southern region finalists are Kelby Holder, Walker Byrd and Anthony Melton, Jr., Greene County Vocational Technical Center; Kyle Albritton and Jared DeLancey, Jackson County Technology Center; Jason Fricke, Hancock County Career Technical Center; and Madelyn Rich, George County High School.
South central region finalists include Hannah Knight, Pearl/Rankin Career and Technical Center, Greg Beemon, Multicraft Academy; Brooke Clark, Vicksburg Warren Career and Technical Center; Eli Cooper, Forest-Scott County Career and Technical Center; Kolby Polk, Simpson County Career and Technical Center; and Matthew Powell, Jones County Career and Technical Education Center.
The mission of the non-profit MCEF is to promote careers, recruit capable individuals and train a workforce for the construction industry in the state of Mississippi. MCEF also offers workforce training and credentialing in construction, industrial maintenance and manufacturing trades.
